How to be Recruited by Women's Collegiate Wrestling Assocation Teams

The best way to be noticed by WCWA Teams is to compete in national freestyle tournaments.

Illinois Colleges with Women's Wrestling

- Augustana University

- Aurora University

- Lincoln College

- McKendree University

- North Central College

Here is a list of the top events that fit that recommendation:

  • USA Junior/16U Nationals (a.k.a. Fargo)
  • Women's National Championships
  • Senior Nationals
  • World Team Trials
  • Olympic Trials

Those events are generally the competitions that most WCWA Teams will participate in, and, the coaches who oversee, administrate, coach, run, & recruit for those teams will also be there.

Freestyle is the style of wrestling that is competed in the Olympic Games, World Championships, Pan Am Games, European Games, Asian Games, Pan Am Championships, European Championships, & Asian Championships. It is recognized by the International Olympic Committee and all International Federations that prepare athletes for these mentioned events.

WCWA Teams also participate in freestyle and are generally feeder programs for the events listed above.

The final recommendation to be seen, noticed & recruited by WCWA Teams is to contact the coach & school of choice directly. This information comes at the end of this list because most coaches want to know about each student's character, academic, & athletic merit prior to pursuing individual student athletes.

To learn about academically eligibliligty requirements and remaining eligible to participate in college sports check out the NCAA and NAIA requirements.

There are also college opportunities for women to wrestle in Canada. The CIS was renamed on Oct 20, 2016 as U Sports which is the national governing body of university sport in Canada, comprising the majority of degree-granting universities in the country.

On March 10, 2017 Jessica Medina a Team USA Wrestler wrote the article How to wrestle in college as a female athlete which mirrors much of the information that was included above. Take the time to read that as well while preparing to have your best chance to wrestle in college.
